The Via Aqua 480 Aquarium Pump, Power Head delivers high performance at an affordable price. Sealed, internal housing insures quiet operation. The superior design results in a pump that is energy efficient, reliable, quiet, long lasting with low heat operation. The Via Aqua Aquarium Pumps are fully submersible and can be paired with wet-dry filters, venturi protein skimmers, under gravel filtering systems, ponds and fountains in both fresh and salt water. However the Via Aqua 480 needs to be slightly reconfigured, but this only takes a little DIY ability (I would NOT recommend purchase for this application if the end user is not good at DIY). Once reconfigured, this is a stronger pump.There are many ways to configure the 480 to replace the existing pump on your 380 and 680 aquarium, however the most simple way from my experience is to NOT place the 480 on the "hanger" as the existing pump, rather simply use one of the attachments that come with the 480 pump and place the pump near the bottom and run vinyl tubing to the existing filter pick up at the top of the aquarium.
